The original film followed Hanks' shy California detective Scott Turner when his life is ripped off when he is forced to partner with the old iron dog Hooch, because the Dane de Bordeaux was a witness to his owner's murder and can identify the killer. In addition to Hanks, the original film starred Mare Winningham, Reginald VelJohnson and Craig Nelson.

The adaptation of the series hired Matt Nix, creator of The Gifted, Fox, and Burn Notice, USA Network, to write and executive produce the series. The 48-year-old writer / producer currently has a general agreement with 20th Century Fox TV, which is linked to the reinvention of the series.

Currently, no plot details are available in the serial version, but sources report that this is seen as a reimagining of the 1989 movie.
