The novel, King's legendary debut, focuses on Carrie White, a high school teen chosen by her classmates, but with an extraordinary gift: she can change things with her mind. An act of kindness, as spontaneous as the cruel taunts of her classmates, gives Carrie a chance to be normal … Until unexpected cruelty turns her gift into a weapon of horror and destruction no one will ever forget.

Carrie was adapted in 1976 by director Brian De Palma and writer Lawrence D. Cohen. The film received two Oscar nominations, including Best Actress as starring star of Sissy Spacek.

Other adapted versions of the story include the 1988 Broadway show Carrie: The Musical, the 2002 film by David Carson and Bryan Fuller, and the 2013 remake starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore, written by Lawrence D. Cohen and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and directed by Kimberly Pierce.
