James Wan shares BTS photo of Malignant as filming nears completion

While some fans are more excited to see James Wan return to Atlantis after last year's big hit, Aquaman, the Australian's next return to the Malignant horror genre has his longtime fans' expectations soaring. The co-writer / director went to Instagram to reveal behind the scenes of the film, announcing that he is coming to the conclusion of his main photograph!

Malignant will star in Annabelle Wallis (Annabelle), Jake Abel (Supernatural), George Young (Containment), Maddie Hasson (Mr. Mercedes), Michole Briana White (Encino Man) and Jacqueline McKenzie (Pine Gap).

The film, whose plot is being kept confidential, is based on a story co-written by Wan and her fiance Ingrid Bisu, who starred in The Nun and recently became engaged to the 42-year-old Australian director. Wan will also produce the film through his Atomic Monster banner alongside Michael Clear. The film is being funded through Starlight Media and Midas Innovation, which will be distributed in China as New Line deals with the remaining distribution. Apparently, Malignant has nothing to do with James Wan's graphic novel Malignant Man, previously created as a feature film on Fox, although considering the titles, it is not difficult to imagine a connection.

Fans of DC Comics needn't worry, however, as Wan's current plan is to go into pre-production following last year's big commercial and critical hit, Aquaman, after the completion of the horror project.

The August 14, 2020 release date will see Malignant facing three other films, including Sony Pictures' Escape Room 2, Universal Nobody's action thriller starring Bob Odenkirk and Disney's starred film adaptation, The One and Only Ivan.
