The legendary is adapting Brian K. Vaughan's Ex Machina as a movie

Another of Brian K. Vaughan's most seminal comic book series is receiving treatment of the film. However, it will hit theaters with a different title. The Hollywood Reporter announces that Legendary Entertainment has secured the rights to Ex Machina. The studio will release the movie as The Big Machine, named after the superhero persona of the main character Mitchell Hundred.

Vaughan and artist Tony Harris released Ex Machina in 2004 with the DC Wildstorm print. The comic strip traced Hundred's political career, who became mayor of New York City after 9/11. In addition, the series featured flashbacks from the Hundred era as The Great Machine. His heroic alter ego had the ability to talk to mechanical devices and command them to do his bidding. Vaughan, Harris and guest artists John Paul Leon and Chris Sprouse produced 50 editions and two specials before completing the title in 2010.

Legendary reason to use The Big Machine as the movie title is presumably to avoid confusion with Alex Garland's Ex Machina, released in 2015. To write the adaptation, the studio recruited the writing team of Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel. More recently, Waterhouse and Shrapnel wrote the scripts for Seberg and Its consequences. Both films hit theaters last year. They also collaborated on Breed, opened in 2016.

Hollywood has been trying to bring Ex Machina to the big screen for about 15 years. New Line obtained comic book rights in 2005. But in 2012, the rights reverted to Vaughan and Harris. Vaughan will also act as a producer in the next movie.
