Lord of the Rings: Gollum to be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X

Announced last year by German studio Daedalic Entertainment, the game Lord of the Rings: Gollum has not gained the limelight during its development, but Edge magazine has revealed important news about the project. Title makers have confirmed that the game will be released for PS5 and Xbox Series X, next-generation consoles that hit the market in late 2020.

As the PS5 and the new Xbox had not yet been formally introduced when the project was revealedDaedalic Entertainment said the game would be released on "relevant platforms" when it hit the market. The title is expected to debut in 2021 and will also feature a PC version.

Daedalic is famous for developing the games of the point-and-click adventure franchise Deponia. One of the recent projects of the standout producer was the independent game Felix The Reaper, which puts the player in control of a dancing and passionate death reaper.

Gollum will be different from the movies

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum promises to be the biggest work ever done by Daealic and, according to the developers, will bring a different version of Gollum than that known to fans of the Lord of the Rings film franchise. According to the studio, the character will be more similar to the description of the books and should not remember the version of Sméagol interpreted by Andy Serkis.

"We don't want to displease those who just watched the movies, but, in short, he doesn't look like Andy Serkis," explains Kai Fiebig, who works on the game's production. The team aims to deliver an in-depth and different story about Gollum by putting together a narrative that follows the character's life before being corrupted by One Ring.

During the interview, the game's art director Mathias Fischer pointed out that The Hobbit author does not provide a clear reference to Gollum's size, which may be an indication that the character may be larger than we expect in the game. . "He's gigantic in the early illustrations," explains the developer, "it's like a monster emerging from the swamp."
