Ryan Murphy's Prom Finds Leadership in Newcomer Jo Ellen Pellman
Deadline After months of searching for the right actress, Ryan Murphy's upcoming Netflix movie The Prom found her lead in the form of future actress Jo Ellen Pellman (The Deuce), with the cast adding Logan Riley Hassel Sofia Deler, Nico Greetham and Nathaniel J. Potvin.

Set in Indiana, The Prom follows the story of a group of four theater actors trying to help a teenage girl whose prom was canceled when she tried to bring her girlfriend as her graduation date. The creative team behind the popular musical is Tony Award nominee Matthew Sklar (wedding singer, musical elf) and Chad Beguelin (Aladdin), the songwriter and lyricist respectively. Tony Award winner Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone) and Beguelin also wrote the book based on the original concept of Jack Vierel.
The next movie will be produced by Bill damaschke (Shrek the Musical) and Dori Berinstein (one flew over the cuckoo's nest). Nicholaw, Sklar, Beguelin and Martin will also join Murphy for the creative production of the film.
In addition to Pellman, the cast lists Meryl Streep (The Laundromat), James Corden (Cats), Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies), Kerry Washington (Scandal), Keegan-Michael Key (Toy Story 4). , Andrew Rannells (big mouth) and Ariana DeBose (west side story).

Washington is to star in the action drama Shadow Force, alongside Sterling K. Brown. She will also co-star with Reese Witherspoon in Hulu's Little Fires Everywhere.
Production is scheduled to begin next month, with a release date scheduled for fall 2020 to enter potential for the awards season.
