We are thrilled to have them on our incredibly talented list. "
First published in 2000, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay is being described as an epic tale of love, war and the birth of US comic book superhero obsession in the big band era in New York. Following is the story of two genius boys named Joe Kavalier and Sammy Clay, who live in 1939 in New York City.
The official synopsis of the novel reads: “A young escape artist and rising magician named Joe Kavalier arrives at the door of his cousin, Sammy Clay. As Hitler's long shadow falls across Europe, the US is happy with the Golden Age of comics, and in a far corner of Brooklyn, Sammy is looking for a way to profit from this craze. He finds Joe's ideal partner in the distant and artistically talented Joe, and together they embark on an adventure that takes them deep into the heart of Manhattan and the heart of old-fashioned American ambition. From the common fears, dreams and desires of two teenagers, they tell comic books of the fascist heroine and escapist and the beautiful and mysterious Luna Moth, supernatural lover of the night. Climbing the streets of Brooklyn to the top of the Empire State Building, Joe and Sammy sculpt lives and careers, as vivid as cyan and magenta ink. "
After nearly 20 years since its debut, the novel has sold more than millions of copies worldwide and is still considered one of the defining 21st century fiction novels. Due to his success and rave reviews from readers and critics, Chabon won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2001. The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay were credited with legitimating comics as a serious literary genre and were also the inspiration for the Metropolitan Museum of Art at the New York Exhibition “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy.
