In addition to Graham's cast in a currently undisclosed role, producer Matt Tolmach revealed the Joblo that following the Warner Bros. Joker record success last month, Sony Pictures is exploring the possibility of pursuing an R-rating in the sequence.
"I mean, I think you always have to think about it now that it works," said Tolmach. “That said, our movie worked very well. Our franchise exists as it is, and I don't think anyone just wants to say, "Hey, they did it!" We have a place in the world. So it's not as if everyone is suddenly wondering what to do with the rating. … I think what the Joker does is say that you can succeed. For a long time this was the narrative. And Deadpool kind of fought it, and then Logan, but for a long time, it was considered totally forbidden. So, you know, I think it's the best thing in the world that R-rated movies are being adopted by big audiences. And that just means there are more opportunities for this kind of narrative. "
Andy Serkis will direct Venom 2, marking his first foray into a comic book after appearing in two Marvel Studios films. Venom 2 will be Serkis' third feature film as director after Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, released on Netflix last year.
Tom Hardy will reprise his role as Eddie Brock in the film alongside Michelle Williams as Anne Weying. Cletus Kasady, also known as Carnage, was briefly introduced to the Venom film franchise during the mid-credit scene of the original film that revealed Woody Harrelson as Venom's archenemy. It was recently confirmed that Harrelson would return to the Venom sequence. Oscar nominee Naomie Harris (Moonlight) has also been in talks to play the role of villain Shriek, who is Carnage's interest and accomplice.
